Bayelsa Governor Calls For More Strategic Collaborations With The US

……..says Bayelsa Is Safe For American businesses

In its bid to ensure rapid and sustainable development, Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State Government says his government would deepen its partnership with the US firms and businesses to attract direct foreign investments to the state.

The Governor  stated this, when he received the American Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. William Stuart Syminton and his entourage in Government House, Yenagoa on Wednesday.

The Governor, in a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Francis Ottah Agbo, described Bayelsa as one of the safest states in the country adding that the state is ready and open for building partnerships with American businesses to boost the state’s economy.

According to Governor Dickson, “a number of American firms are doing well in the state” as the government has provided a conducive atmosphere for such businesses to thrive.

He has, therefore, urged the international community to key into the vast investment opportunities that abound in the state in the areas of security, healthcare, education and construction.

Restating his administration’s commitment to continually place premium on the education sector, Governor Dickson observed that, education remains a potent weapon to change the world.

The Governor, who also highlighted environmental degradation arising from crude oil exploitation and other activities, solicited the collaboration of the United States in tackling such challenges to preserve the environment, stressing that, the environment remains the collective heritage of all.

In his remarks, the American Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Syminton acknowledged the efforts of Governor Dickson at improving security, education and health, which he noted, would go a long way, in attracting a lot of opportunities to the state.

The Ambassador who is visiting Bayelsa and the Niger Delta for the first time, called on the people of the state to support the government in building capacities, with a view to securing a better future.

His words: “I have learned about your efforts on security and your idea that, the kind of security that lasts is the kind that is supported by the people.

I have also heard so much about the efforts you are making here to ensure that Bayelsa is connected by education and ideas to the whole world. For me, one of the most interesting things here is how you address what I think is a great question in the whole world. And that is, what will people do? How will they actually make a difference in their own lives and others in the world?”

We talked about the climate for investment, industry and all things that can make it possible for people to go to work and I think the greatest advertisement for any state is for the people to know that.”
