Abubakar Jidda Usman, a Kaduna-based journalist and Head of News and Current Affairs, Freedom Radio, Kaduna Station, has escaped death by the whiskers, following an attack by yet-to-be identified hoodlums.
The incident occurred around 2am on Sunday, in his residence at number 20 Zaria Road, Kwaru, Majalisa, Badarawa, a suburb in Kaduna metropolis.
Mr. Usman, who spoke to our reporter at Garkuwa Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment, said the hoodlums appeared from behind a wall where they were hiding and attacked him with swords and machetes.
His words: “I came out of my room to ease myself in the guest toilet in my house. Suddenly, the hoodlums appeared from a wall where they were hiding and attacked me from behind.
“Upon a struggle, the hoodlums attacked me with matchet on my neck, missing my throat by inches, leaving me in the pool of my own blood and fled, thinking that I am dead.
“It was very dark, so I couldn’t identify their faces.”
Usman said the incident has been reported at Malali Police Station.
Adamu Ladan, Kaduna Station Manager of Freedom Radio, when contacted said the management of the station has already contacted relevant security agencies and is studying the situation to ascertain whether it was an organised attack.
“We are also organising ourselves to study the situation to know whether the attacked is organised or just a usual attack from hoodlums,” he said.
Agyole Abeh, Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, while confirming the incident said the police have commenced investigation. “I will also contact the DPO of that area to ensure that, those criminals are apprehended and brought to book,” the CP said.
