Student activist and former Vice President, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Jethro Anum has said Senator George Akume with his wealth of experience in civil and and public service fits properly as the next Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) to drive the engine of the President Muhammad Buhari’s led government.
According to the youth leader, the current Federal Government needs a man with vast experience to bring the required expertise to bear in the running of the government stressing that the excellent performance of Sen Akume as a Permanent Secretary, two time Governor and two time Senator without blemish makes him suitable for the position.
It would be recalled that President Muhammad Buhari last week suspended the SGF, Babachir Lawal following allegations of mismanagement of the Presidential Northeast Funds alongside the Director General of Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA).
According to him: “Senator Akume is a well grounded civil and public servant who is well versed in governance as well as have the composure to place the administration of President Buhari on a sound footing.
“This will make way for stability in the running of government affairs and create a harmonious working relationship that will be just, honest, fair and balanced to all manner of people”.
While calling on other well meaning Nigerians to support a call in this regard, he described Akume as a tested and trusted personality who successfully placed the All Progressives Congress (APC) on a sound footing in the country while he was the Senate minority leader in the seventh national assembly.
Reiterating his support for the present administration, Anum argued that appointing the SGF from the North Central zone will further give the people of the region confidence that the government they voted overwhelmingly has their interest at heart.
