A total of 113 Generals of the Nigerian Army are set to retire or have retired from the service this year. The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, praised these senior officers for their sacrifices and unwavering commitment to the nation’s stability during a Regimental Dinner Night organized in their honor.
The honorees include one General, one Lieutenant General, 67 Major Generals, and 44 Brigadier Generals who concluded their meritorious and dedicated service without blemish to the nation within the year. The Minister assured the retirees of the government’s commitment to the prompt payment of their pension entitlements.
Speaking at the event held at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess in Asokoro, Abuja, the Minister encouraged the retirees to reflect on the next phase of life. He expressed gratitude to the retirees for their exemplary service, love for the country, and commended their spouses for their perseverance.
Minister Badaru urged members of the Armed Forces to remain loyal and sustain the culture of supporting democracy in Nigeria and beyond. He highlighted the Armed Forces’ positive disposition towards democracy, making it a shining example in West Africa and an influencer in the comity of nations.
The Minister emphasized that the occasion provided an opportunity for the Nigerian Army to reflect on its service and the profound dedication demonstrated by the retired and retiring senior officers. He noted that their experiences and skills, coupled with a respect for diversity, would serve as a valuable platform as they exit the service.
