The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has reported that 116 houses in Trademore Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, have been affected by a flood. According to Dr. Abbas Idriss, the Director-General of FEMA, the flooding occurred as a result of heavy rainfall that started in the early hours of the day. Fortunately, no loss of life has been reported.
Dr. Idriss attributed the flooding to infractions on the water channels, which made the estate vulnerable to such incidents. He dismissed social media reports claiming that a resident was missing due to the flood.
In light of the situation, the FEMA Director-General appealed to residents whose houses were built on water channels to relocate to safer areas. It should be noted that the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) had previously predicted heavy flooding in the FCT this year. Therefore, Dr. Idriss advised residents living in flood-prone areas to consider relocating for their own safety.
In case of emergencies, residents were urged to contact the emergency hotline at 112 toll-free number to report any incidents or seek assistance.
