PRINCESS BOLANLE OGUNDIRAN LAUNCHES BOOKS ON SECURITY, TECH IMPACT AND CRIME PREVENTION IN ABUJA

Hon. Princess (Mrs) Bolanle Ogundiran, PhD, DSC, Wednesday, launched three books she authored on security, technological impact and crime prevention in the Nigerian society.

The event which was held at the Banquet Hall of the NAF Conference Centre, Kado in Abuja was chaired by former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan GCFR , who was ably represented by H.E Labarun Maku, a former Information Minister under the Jonathan administration.

The author, Ogundiran, educationist, politician, and humanitarian philanthropist, presented three publications at the launch, titled – The Intersection of Technology and Reality in Nigeria: Examining How Technology perception of reality, identity and community policing; Preventing Crime Through Community Policing: a case study of the Nigerian Police Initiative; and The Impact of Social Media on Deviance and Social Control in Nigeria, a case study of “END SARS” movement.

In her first book, she focused on the essence and impact of technology on reality, identity and community which was reviewed by Prof. Charles Nwekeaku, the Secretary General, Igbo Elders Consultative Forum.

Sir Mike Okiro CFR PhD, former Inspector General of Police (IGP), reviewed the second book analysing the relevance of Community Policing on safety of lives and growth in society.

Prof. Tafida Ahmad was the reviewer of the third book on the Impact of Social Media with reference to the ENDSARS movement.

Initiating the book launch with a goodwill message, the Chief launcher, H.E. Senator Bala A. Mohammed CON, the Governor of Bauchi State, Kauran Bauchi, donated the sum of Five million Naira (N5,000,000) in support of the author, represented by Alhaji Illaman Bapayo Misau.

The representative of the Bauchi State governor stated that “the author has been in the party right from inception till date, and she has really contributed her quota to the society and not stopping there, now coming up with these magnificent books, she really deserve to be celebrated and supported”, he remarked.

Also joining the chief launcher were dignitaries drawn from the political class, government, academia, diplomatic corps and others.
They included former vice president, Atiku Abubakar GCON, represented by the wife, H.E Mrs. Titi Atiku Abubakar founder of NAPTIP, H.E Senator Bukola Saraki, former Senate President ably represented; H.E Philip Salawu, former Deputy Governor Kogi State; PDP Nat’l Working Committee NWC, duly represented by Hon. Umaru Bature, the Nat’l Organising. Secretary; Senator Grace Bent, Pro-Chancellor UNIJOS; Hajia Inna Ciroma CON, former Minister of Women Affairs and former PDP Nat. Woman Leader; Hon. Beni Lar, former HoR member; Prof. Matoh Dogara, Kaduna State University; Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, former Minority Leader HoR, Dr. Fatima Saleh; Nat’l Council for Women Societies, NCWS duly represented; representative of Al-Hikma University, Ilorin Kwara State with donations; Founder of Base University Abuja, Senator Datti Ahmed, ably represented with support; fmr Attorney General of Kwara State and Nat’l Legal Advisor, Kamaldeen Ajibade SAN honourably represented with support; president of the Nat’l Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) duly represented by NANS Abuja chapter; Spiritual leaders from the Christian and Muslim community present with support, and First Class Traditional Rulers, among others.

Goodwill messages were received from representatives of the Minister of Defence, Minister of Women Affairs, Minister of Education, Leeds University UK; Also present were Prof. Seth Akuson (Philomath University), Dr. Aisha Aliyu (former Woman Leader PDP, Board member Federal University of Minna), supporting the academic works of the author, and recommending its numerous benefits to the society.

In her speech, the author, a researcher and writer of great repute whose contributions include several books and numerous journals, holds Ph.Ds in Philosophy and Criminology, respectively.

“Knowledge is like a candle, the more you share, the brighter the glow“, she quoted.
She advocated the prevention of crime through “timely policies and programs for reorientation of the youths, creating opportunities in enterprise and employment while also buttressing growth for the womenfolk”, she added.

“I exalt the performances of security agencies and urge speedy hearings in courts to improve delivery of justice and reduce crime rates”, she concluded.
