The leadership tussle within the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a new twist on Sunday as the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike — popularly known as the Legacy Group — elected a new state working committee led by Barrister Nosa Ogieva.
Ogieva emerged chairman alongside 13 other officials at the PDP 2025 State Congress held in Benin City. The group pledged to rebuild unity within the party and restore its electoral strength ahead of future polls.
Of the 14 positions filled, 11 members were returned unopposed. Tony Aziegbemi, Henry Tenebe, and Victor Enoghama contested the positions of State Chairman, Secretary, and Deputy State Chairman, respectively. A total of 576 delegates drawn from 192 wards across Edo State participated in the congress.
In his acceptance speech, Barrister Ogieva described the outcome as “the beginning of a new dawn” for Edo PDP, promising loyalty, transparency, and renewed commitment to the party’s ideals.
> “We will not betray the trust of our members. Unity and loyalty will be our guiding principles as we reposition the PDP to reclaim its winning strength in Edo,” he stated.
Meanwhile, party chieftain Chief Dan Orbih accused former Governor Godwin Obaseki of being responsible for the prolonged internal crisis, alleging that his leadership style alienated key stakeholders and weakened the party’s structure.
Orbih noted that the PDP’s poor performance in recent by-elections reflected the growing discontent among members and urged delegates to support leaders capable of restoring the party’s lost glory in the state.
