Minister Uche Nnaji Resigns Amid Certificate Forgery Allegations

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has tendered his resignation following allegations of certificate forgery leveled against him.

The development was confirmed in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who said the President had accepted Nnaji’s resignation.

According to Onanuga, Nnaji — who was appointed in August 2023 — submitted his resignation letter on Tuesday, expressing appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve.

In the letter, Nnaji reportedly described himself as a victim of political blackmail, insisting that the allegations against him were orchestrated by opponents seeking to tarnish his reputation.

“President Tinubu thanked him for his service and wished him success in his future endeavours,” Onanuga added.

The resignation marks the first major exit from Tinubu’s cabinet in recent months, amid ongoing scrutiny of public officials’ credentials and conduct.
