The Abia State Government has dismissed fresh rumours suggesting that Governor Alex Otti has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The speculation emerged after a photo of Governor Otti’s recent visit to Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah circulated online. Some social media users claimed the meeting was part of Otti’s alleged plan to join the ruling national party — an assumption that gained traction following Mbah’s own defection to the APC days later.
Reacting to the report on Monday, Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, described the defection story as a baseless fabrication by political opponents.
“Governor Alex Otti remains a proud and loyal member of the Labour Party — the same platform through which the good people of Abia overwhelmingly elected him,” Kanu said.
He added that the Governor’s attention remains fully devoted to rebuilding Abia, promoting accountability, and delivering good governance to every citizen of the state.
The Commissioner urged residents to ignore the false narrative, calling it “another round of cheap propaganda” aimed at distracting the administration.
