Swift Police Action Foils Midnight Robbery in Ogun, Recovers Criminals’ Lexus Vehicle

The Ogun State Police Command has successfully foiled a late-night robbery attempt in Sagamu, recovering a black Lexus vehicle used by the fleeing suspects during a swift intervention led by officers of the Sakura Police Division.

According to a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday when the police received a distress call from the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman of Okearedi, Araromi, located off the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway. The caller reported that a group of about five armed men were attempting to break into a residence within the community.

In a prompt response, officers from the Sakura Division were immediately mobilized to the scene. Upon sighting the patrol team, the suspected robbers fled in different directions, abandoning their operational vehicle in their attempt to escape. The police engaged in a hot pursuit, but the suspects managed to evade capture in the darkness of the early morning.

Odutola revealed that the recovered vehicle, a black Lexus GS 350 with registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT, was found at the entrance of the community. During a search of the car, officers discovered several fireworks (knockouts) believed to have been intended as tools of distraction during the robbery operation.

“The quick and coordinated action by our operatives prevented what could have been a major robbery incident. The recovery of the operational vehicle and the materials found inside indicate a well-planned operation that was thankfully interrupted,” Odutola stated.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, praised the officers for their professionalism and prompt response. He further assured residents of the command’s continued vigilance as part of its enhanced security strategy for the festive season.

“We have intensified patrols across all identified flashpoints in Ogun State. Our officers are working tirelessly to ensure that criminals find no room to operate,” Ogunlowo said.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious, particularly when entering or leaving their homes at night. The Commissioner also advised communities to ensure their streets and compounds are well lit, as darkness provides cover for criminal activity.

In addition, Ogunlowo encouraged members of the public to make use of the command’s verified social media platforms to share information and receive real-time security updates.

This operation follows similar proactive measures in the state. Earlier in June 2025, the Ogun State Security Network (Amotekun Corps) successfully foiled another robbery attempt in Akinale town, Ewekoro Local Government Area, rescuing residents after a 28-year-old man sustained gunshot injuries.

The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities immediately for rapid response.
