Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has disclosed the reason he is angry with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, flag bearer Atiku Abubakar and the party’s national chairman Iyorchia Ayu.
It was reported that the crisis in the PDP began after Atiku emerged as the party’s presidential candidate.
Wike had alleged that there had been manipulations during the presidential primary which were meant to favour Atiku.
Things took a turn for the worse after Delta state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa was appointed the vice presidential candidate of the party.
While Wike had stated that he was not interested in the vice presidency position, he, however, demanded that Ayu must resign if peace is to be restored to the party.
Ayu on his part said that he will not be vacating his position until his tenure is over.
Speaking on the crisis plaguing the party, Wike revealed that an agreement had been made that Ayu would resign if the presidential candidate of the party emerged from the north for a southern to take over, The Nation reports.
He said that after Atiku emerged as the PDP’s flag bearer, he (Atiku) visited him, solicited his support and promised that Ayu would resign in the spirit of the PDP’s constitution.
The Rivers state governor stated that it was quite shocking that Ayu and Atiku had failed to live up to their promises
