The Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government reportedly hired a United States firm to recover illicit funds allegedly traced to the account of the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar.
According to a report on The Cable, Buhari’s administration also engaged the same firm to retrieve funds from the accounts of former Ekiti governor, Ayodele Fayose and former Minister of Defence, Ambassador Musiliu Obanikoro.
A memo marked HAGF/AABIOLA/USA/2021/VOL.1/1 — and dated May 31, 2021 — revealed that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, engaged Akib Abiola as the lead recovery agent to recover the funds on behalf of the federal government from Atiku.
AGF Malami, in the letter of engagement, disclosed that the stolen assets are currently under forfeiture proceedings.
