Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has berated his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amoosun, for openly declaring support for his opponent.
Recall that Amosun had last Friday declared his support for the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Biyi Otegbeye, in next year’s election.
Amosun announced his controversial decision despite his support for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu.
The lawmaker disclosed that he would be supporting Tinubu in 2023, but would not support the state Governor, Dapo Abiodun who is the governorship candidate of the party.
Amosun during an interview with BBC Yoruba, in Abeokuta, Ogun State said, “For the presidential poll, I can assure you, both right, left and centre, we are supporting one person (Tinubu). I believe we are supporting one person. On the governorship poll, that’s a different ball game. I don’t belong there.
“I don’t hide behind one finger to fight. That’s why people say to me ‘don’t say that.’ On governorship, my supporters and I, we don’t belong to that side.”
Amosun when asked about the governorship candidate he would be supporting in 2023, said, “Biyi Otegbeye is the person I am supporting and ADC is the party.”
Reacting to Amosun’s open declaration during a meeting with members of the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association, held at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, Dapo Abiodun said the former governor will fail in his anti-party politics aimed to scuttle his re-election bid.
According to Abiodun, Amosun will fail once again as he did in the 2019 gubernatorial election.
He said the lawmaker’s position was an“empty threat of a fallen man.
