The Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC, Ahmed Umar, has confirmed that no fewer than 10 people died from the explosion at Araromi on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Thursday morning.
It was gathered that Umar while addressing pressmen in Abeokuta said victims of the explosion were burnt to death and beyond recognition, adding that five vehicles were also burnt in the raging inferno.
Umar noted that all the people who died were in a Mazda bus that caught fire during the explosion, adding that the victims of the inferno were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
According to him, the cause of the accident was overspeeding by the Iveco truck driver, adding that the “driver of the Iveco truck, who was travelling on top speed lost control and rammed into the tanker, which resulted to fire outbreak due to leakage.”
“The suspected cause of the multiple crashes was excessive speed which led to the loss of control on the part of the Iveco truck and smashed the tanker body which resulted in a fire outbreak due to leakage,”
