In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has given his predecessor, Bello Matawalle, a five-day ultimatum to return vehicles that were allegedly taken away by officials of his administration.
Governor Lawal expressed his commitment to fulfilling the campaign promises made to the people of Zamfara State, which includes the recovery of looted public funds and government properties. He provided details of the alleged missing vehicles and vowed to take action in retrieving them.
According to the governor, a contract was awarded by the former governor for the purchase of vehicles, valued at N1,149,800,000. The vehicles included various models such as Toyota Lexus VIP Bullet Proof 2021 Model, Toyota Land Cruiser VIP Bullet Proof 2021 Model, Toyota Prado V6 2021 Model, Toyota Prado V4 2021 Model, Peugeot 2021 Model, Toyota Hilux 2021 Model, Toyota Land Cruiser Bullet Proof 2021 Model, and Toyota Lexus 2021 Model. The contract was awarded to Hafkhad Properties and Facilities Management Nig. LTD.
Efforts to reach Ibrahim Dosara, the spokesperson of Bello Matawalle, for comments were unsuccessful as his phone was switched off.
It is worth noting that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating Matawalle for an alleged N70 billion probe. In response, the former governor accused Abdulrasheed Bawa, Chairman of the EFCC, of demanding a $2 million bribe from him.
