Samuel Kwamkur, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, issued a stern warning to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, cautioning him against making inflammatory remarks that could ignite unrest in Nigeria.
During a press briefing in Jos, Kwamkur, a former National Director of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), responded to statements attributed to the former governor.
According to reports, El-Rufai allegedly made remarks before handing over to his successor, claiming that Islamic dominance had been successfully established in Kaduna and would continue to prevail throughout Nigeria.
Kwamkur further alleged that El-Rufai deceived Christians during election campaigns by asserting that the Muslim/Muslim ticket was not intended for religious dominance, whereas, in reality, both the state and national tickets were aimed at promoting Islamic dominance.
Additionally, Kwamkur claimed that El-Rufai stated in a viral video that Bola Tinubu’s victory had silenced CAN, insinuating that Tinubu’s electoral success was part of a larger plan for Islamization.
Expressing his disappointment with El-Rufai’s remarks, Kwamkur argued that the former governor’s classification of citizens as “them” versus “us” implicated him in the wanton killings and destruction of houses and places of worship of Christians in Kaduna.
Kwamkur accused El-Rufai of transforming into a “confirmed religious bigot” with a hidden agenda to exploit religion in order to destabilize the country.
He stressed that El-Rufai should not use his words to mislead Nigerians into believing that Tinubu’s electoral victory was solely for the purpose of Islamizing Nigeria.
Kwamkur acknowledged that he had previously discouraged the belief in an Islamization agenda surrounding Tinubu’s Muslim/Muslim ticket, but El-Rufai’s statements, as a close associate of Tinubu and an active campaign participant, raised concerns about a hidden agenda.
In the address attributed to El-Rufai, Kwamkur alleged that the former governor spoke like one of the religious bigots working behind the scenes to ignite conflict in the nation.
The APC chieftain called on Tinubu to be cautious of friends, associates, and politicians like El-Rufai, as they could potentially cause harm to the system and the nation.
He expressed his belief that God would continue to expose those among Nigerians who disguise themselves as well-intentioned but harbor ulterior motives.
