Simon Ekpa, a prominent Biafra agitator and separatist, made an announcement on Wednesday regarding a weeklong sit-at-home protest aimed at demanding the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a statement, Ekpa, who is a Finland-based lawyer and the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, revealed that the sit-at-home protest would take place from July 3rd to 10th, 2023. He also mentioned that there would be a break on July 6th.
Ekpa emphasized the importance of the sit-at-home protest, stating that it was necessary for securing the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu and as a preparatory measure for Biafra’s referendum. He called on market leaders, companies, and individuals in the southeast region to comply with the protest.
“The Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE) and Biafra De Facto Government-In-Homeland wish to inform Biafrans that there will be a sit-at-home civil disobedience from July 3rd to July 10th, 2023. There will be a break on July 6th, where all Biafran markets will be open.
The sit-at-home protest is for the following reasons:
1. To demand the immediate and unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently illegally detained at the DSS dungeon.
2. In preparation for Biafra’s self-referendum.
3. To alert the world that Biafrans are taking control of their own future.
4. To demonstrate the Biafra Republic Government In Exile’s legitimacy as the only recognized government by the Biafran people, to whom they listen and are loyal.
5. To invalidate the legitimacy of those who claim to represent Nigeria within the Biafran territory.
The sit-at-home protest will be carried out as follows: From Monday, July 3rd to Wednesday, July 5th, there will be a total lockdown in Biafraland. On Thursday, July 6th, there will be a break, and all Biafran markets will open. From Friday, July 7th to Monday, July 10th, there will be another total lockdown in Biafraland.
We call upon all market leaders to strictly adhere to this order and treat it with utmost seriousness. We also urge all oil companies operating in the Biafran territory to halt oil exploration during these dates to avoid the wrath of the Biafran people, which may have severe consequences,” Ekpa stated.
