Representatives of the Federal Government and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) are set to resume discussions on Monday regarding palliatives for the removal of petrol subsidies.
Following the removal of fuel subsidies on May 29, the NLC had threatened to initiate an industrial action, which could potentially disrupt the country’s economy.
However, on June 5, the NLC announced the suspension of their planned strike after engaging in a series of meetings with the federal government.
Both the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had put forward certain demands to mitigate the impact of the fuel price hike and rising costs of essential commodities caused by the subsidy removal.
In the meeting scheduled for 4 pm today, it is expected that the parties will work towards reaching a consensus on some of these demands.
The meeting will take place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, as confirmed by Kachallom Daju, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.
