The acting Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has appointed Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, as the Principal Staff Officer to the IG. The appointment, effective immediately, was announced through a police signal obtained on Friday.
Disu previously served as the Commander of the Force Intelligence Bureau and the Intelligence Response Team of the Nigeria Police Force. He holds a degree in English Education from Lagos State University and has two Masters degrees, one in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University and another in Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University.
Disu joined the police force in 1992 and has attended numerous professional courses both locally and internationally. He has received training in areas such as small arms smuggling, internet fraud, strategic leadership, forensic investigations, and criminal intelligence.
Prior to his appointment as Principal Staff Officer, Disu was appointed as Commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team in 2021 following the suspension of DCP Abba Kyari. He has also served as the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos State, where he led successful operations against criminals, particularly fraudsters.
In a separate development, Acting IGP Egbetokun announced plans to establish a specialized Quick Intervention Squad within the Nigeria Police Force to tackle crime and maintain security in the country. He made this statement during his maiden conference with the Police Management Team in Abuja.
Egbetokun emphasized that the police force would not engage in partnerships with outlawed groups but would instead engage them in dialogue. He clarified that the NPF, under his leadership, would not enter into partnerships with non-state actors such as Asari Dokubo, who recently accused security agencies of complicity in oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region.
