In an effort to maintain law and order, the Enugu state government has successfully tracked down and apprehended hoodlums responsible for enforcing an illegal sit-at-home order in the state. The announcement was made by the secretary to the state government, Chidiebere Onyia, who warned that those engaged in scaremongering through fake videos and images would face appropriate sanctions.
Onyia directed all offices, schools, business premises, and markets, including the Ogbete Main Market, to disregard the sit-at-home order and resume normal activities on Friday. The government emphasized that failure to comply with this directive would be seen as a deliberate attempt to undermine the government’s efforts to restore full working days, productivity, and entrepreneurship in Enugu.
The statement released by the Enugu state government urged citizens and residents to ignore scaremongers and continue with their daily activities. It assured the public that security measures were in place to enforce law and order and ensure the safety of lives and property.
The statement also highlighted the fact that criminal elements and enemies of Enugu state and the Igbo community often exploit freedom agitation to carry out destructive and violent activities. The government called on the people of Enugu to provide information to the authorities regarding any suspicious individuals or movements, as well as those who use social media to spread rumors and incite panic among the public.
The sit-at-home order was declared by Simon Ekpa, a factional leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as a means to demand the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. However, the Enugu state government has taken a firm stance against this illegal order and is working diligently to maintain peace and order in the state.
