Dozy Mmobuosi, a Nigerian techpreneur embroiled in controversy over fabricated claims and alleged scams, has opened a diagnostic centre called Equity Specialist Clinics and Diagnostic Centre in Lagos. The medical facility, located in the Lekki area, offers medical and diagnostic services but lacks a website or online presence to provide further details. Mmobuosi, who claims to advocate for technological advancement in Africa, is the founder and CEO of Tingo Inc., a publicly traded company headquartered in the United States.
Earlier this year, Hindenburg Research exposed Tingo Group, an entity associated with Mmobuosi, as a scam with fabricated financials. The investigation revealed that Mmobuosi had fabricated his background, including claims of developing the first mobile payment app in Nigeria and obtaining a PhD from a Malaysian university. He has faced legal issues in the past, including an eight-count indictment for bad cheque issuance.
Tingo Group, which claims to operate in various sectors such as mobile phones and food processing, has been criticized for its false claims and lack of substantiation. The company reported significant revenue figures but was found to have no food processing facility or evidence of mobile services. The authenticity of Tingo Group’s business licenses has also been called into question.
Despite the allegations, Mmobuosi has denied the fraud accusations and defended the accuracy of the company’s accounting records. He views the report as an attempt to undermine the positive work done by Tingo Group in global markets.
