A youth group in Ubeji community, located in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, has taken a strong stance against indecent dressing among young ladies. Under the banner of the Ubeji Youth and Employment Development Organisation, the group has initiated a campaign titled ‘War Against Indecent Dressing’ in the community.
According to reports, the youth group has started cracking down on suspected offenders, subjecting them to strokes of the cane or imposing fines. The campaign, which began on July 3, 2023, has caused panic among females in the locality.
Some individuals have been fined amounts as high as N10,000 or received 40 strokes of the cane for violating the dress code. Stanley Bomele, the Secretary of the youth group, confirmed the initiative, stating that it was necessary due to the provocative ways some ladies dressed in the community.
Bomele emphasized that the wearing of miniskirts, bummer shorts, or tight shorts would no longer be tolerated, as such dressing is considered indecent and detrimental to the community’s image. The group aims to address the issue of assaults and sexual harassment, which they attribute to indecent dressing among young ladies.
The enforcement of this dress code by the youth group highlights their concerns about maintaining decency and promoting a respectable appearance within the community.
