In a tragic incident, armed bandits attacked and killed four policemen serving under the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Monday night.
The officers were stationed at a checkpoint along the Bungudu-Gusau Road when the bandits launched an ambush and opened fire on them.
ASP Yazid Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, confirmed the attack, although he could not provide immediate confirmation of the casualties. He assured that more information would be provided later.
According to Ibrahim Bungudu, a resident of Bungudu town, four policemen were killed in the attack. He also reported that during the incident, one person was shot in the hand in Tagero village under the Furfuri district of Bungudu Local Government Area. Additionally, the bandits rustled several cattle belonging to residents of Tagero village.
Usman Bungudu, another resident of Bungudu town, corroborated the attack, stating that the bandits targeted the policemen while they were on checkpoint duty around midnight. He confirmed the death of four policemen in the ambush, with the bandits fleeing the scene after the attack.
The Zamfara State has experienced a series of attacks by armed bandits in recent times, leading to heightened security concerns in the region.
