The Department of State Services (DSS) has made a suggestion that Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), may have a connection with the separatist group Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The DSS pointed out in a tweet that Emefiele is being represented by the same lawyer as IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
The tweet from the DSS raised questions about whether Emefiele’s association with IPOB’s lawyer indicates any link between him and the separatist group. It also mentioned the recent charges against Emefiele for illegal possession of firearms, which led to his arrest and detention, though the court later nullified the arrest.
Godwin Emefiele, who was appointed governor of the CBN in 2014, was suspended by President Bola Tinubu on 9th June 2023. The DSS’s tweet has raised further interest and scrutiny on the matter, prompting discussions about the possible connections between Emefiele and IPOB.
