The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Chief Daniel Igali, expresses confidence that the Prosperity Cup, Nigeria’s biggest grassroots tournament, will become a breeding ground for future Super Eagles stars. Chief Igali highlights the success of the competition in discovering young raw talents in the state, and the increasing number of participating teams showcases its popularity among Bayelsans, making it Africa’s largest grassroots tournament.
Igali commends the four semi-finalists and anticipates a fiercely contested final, as the players demonstrate commitment and passion. He firmly believes that the current crop of players showcased in the tournament has the potential to replace current players in youth teams and eventually represent the Super Eagles.
The Commissioner acknowledges the support of Governor Douye Diri and his deputy Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo in providing a platform for young talents to showcase their skills. He pledges to support and nurture the discovered talents to achieve stardom.
Chief Igali also expresses gratitude to the tournament organizers for their yearly improvements, ensuring the competition’s quality of organization and competitiveness.
The semi-final matches will take place at the Samson Siasia Stadium, with De Grace FC of Yenagoa facing Dream Boys FC of Odi on Saturday, followed by Agbere FC taking on Crusaders Feeders FC of Peretorugbene on Sunday.
The Prosperity Cup’s final is scheduled for July 30, 2023, and Governor Douye Diri will declare the tournament closed.
