Former President Goodluck Jonathan has announced his plan to visit Aso Villa frequently now that Nigeria is chairing the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). This disclosure comes after President Bola Tinubu was elected chairman at the 63rd ordinary session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Bissau on July 9.
After a meeting with President Tinubu at the state house on Tuesday, July 18, Jonathan stated that as the head of the ECOWAS mediation team to Mali and chair of the West African Elders’ Forum, he has been mandated to discuss important issues concerning the continent and the subregion with the Nigerian president.
With President Tinubu’s recent appointment as the chairperson of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Jonathan expressed his intention to visit the Aso Villa regularly to engage in discussions on the challenges facing the sub-region. He emphasized the significance of addressing the various issues in the continent and subregion through collaborative efforts with other presidents.
As the ECOWAS mediator for Mali, Jonathan plays a crucial role in promoting peace and resolution of conflicts in the region. Additionally, his position as chair of the West African Elders’ Forum further underscores his involvement in important regional matters.
