Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced that Aba, a major city in the state, will soon be independently powered through the Geometric Power Limited’s power plant within one or two months.
Governor Otti made this announcement during a courtesy visit by the Chairman of Geometric Power Limited, Prof Bartholomew Nnaji, a former Minister of Power, and his team. Expressing delight at the development, the governor assured the people of Aba that they will soon have a reliable power supply.
Currently, Aba is purchasing power from the National Grid, which has led to intermittent power supply. However, with the imminent operation of the Geometric Power Plant, the city is expected to have a stable and consistent electricity supply.
Governor Otti revealed that the state government and Geometric Power Limited are actively engaged in discussions with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited to address the gas supply issue, which is crucial for the power plant’s operation.
“The turbines required to power the electricity plant, which were previously taken abroad for maintenance, have been successfully brought back to the plant and reinstalled,” he stated.
The Geometric Power Aba Limited, situated in Alaoji Aba, is set to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s electricity output, adding 188 megawatts to the national grid once operational. The progress towards independent power generation in Aba is a significant step towards providing stable and uninterrupted electricity to the city’s residents and businesses.
