Afrobeats sensation Davido has unfollowed his logistics manager, Isreal ‘DMW’ Afeare, on Instagram, shortly after the latter issued an apology on behalf of the singer to the Muslim community. The apology came in response to widespread criticism surrounding the controversial music video of Davido’s newly signed artiste, Logos Olori.
The music video for the song titled ‘Jaye Lo’ featured some men dressed in white Jalabiya dancing in front of a mosque, which sparked outrage and condemnation from the Muslim community. Although Davido took down the video on Monday, some Muslims demanded a public apology from the singer.
In Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, some youths took to the streets to express their displeasure with Davido and even set a large banner of the singer on fire. Additionally, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the matter further.
In response to the backlash, Isreal, the singer’s logistics manager, took to social media to apologize to the Muslim community on Tuesday. He clarified that the video was purely for entertainment purposes and was wrongly presented. He expressed regret for any offense caused and urged forgiveness from the Muslim brothers and sisters.
Despite the criticism and calls for a response, Davido has remained silent on the matter. However, it was noticed that he unfollowed his aide, Isreal, on Instagram, shortly after the apology was issued. On the other hand, Isreal still follows Davido on the social media platform.
The controversy surrounding the music video has put Davido and his team under scrutiny, highlighting the need for sensitivity and cultural awareness in the entertainment industry. As the situation unfolds, fans and critics alike are keen to see how the popular Afrobeats singer will address the issue and whether further actions will be taken to mend relations with the offended Muslim community.
