Former President Muhammadu Buhari has refuted allegations of corrupt enrichment during his eight-year tenure as president. He made this statement while meeting with the Katsina State leadership of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Daura.
Speaking in Hausa, Buhari stated that he did not enrich himself with the nation’s wealth and that anyone accusing him of such acts was wasting their time. He clarified that he only owns three houses, two in Kaduna and one in Daura, and does not possess properties elsewhere in the country or abroad. Buhari emphasized that farming was his primary occupation, and he owned cattle and other animals on his farm.
The AFAN chairman, Ya’u Umar Gwojo-gwojo, commended Buhari for revitalizing the agricultural sector through various intervention programs. Despite the challenging global economic outlook and the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nigerian economy registered positive growth during Buhari’s administration, largely due to his agricultural policies and programs. These initiatives have significantly improved agricultural activities and boosted food production and security in the North-west and other regions of the country.
Gwojo-gwojo urged Buhari to advise the federal government to sustain the ban on food importation to support the current agricultural transformation agenda. He praised Buhari’s contributions to agricultural transformation and nation-building, highlighting how his back-to-back policies led to the country’s food sufficiency.
The AFAN chairman presented a letter to Buhari, requesting him to accept the position of state patron of the association in recognition of his contributions to agricultural activities in the country.
