President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians to brace for additional tough policy measures aimed at repositioning governance for efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity. In his speech, read by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr. George Akume, Tinubu emphasized the need to revamp the nation’s economy and improve the welfare of its citizens.
Notably, the President’s previous announcement in May 2023 about the removal of fuel subsidy and implementation of a new forex regime has been met with an increase in pump prices, triggering consequential hardships for Nigerians. Despite this, Tinubu stated that the policies are already yielding positive results and have garnered support and commendation from the global community.
The celebration of the Federal Civil Service Week aligns with the African Union’s declaration, emphasizing the importance of public civil servants in governance and national economic growth. Tinubu highlighted the significance of digitalization in the public service, urging the civil service to embrace technology for efficient resource utilization and national development.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s focus on Nigeria-first policies, with an ultimate goal of revamping the nation’s economy and improving the well-being of its citizens. He acknowledged the critical phase of the nation’s existence, emphasizing the need to correct past errors, redefine the mission, and create a new Nigeria that offers multiple opportunities for all citizens.
Tinubu promised that the government would introduce paradigm shifts and challenging policy measures to enhance governance and productivity. He called on the civil service to increase the pace of reforms and work towards achieving the targets set under the six pillars of the federal civil service strategy and implementation plan for 2021 to 2025.
