The National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was filled with apprehension as concerns arose about the possible dissolution of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for today. As the NWC led by Acting National Chairman Senator Abubakar Kyari attended a meeting of the APC National Caucus, party officials expressed worries that the discussions at the caucus could lead to the ouster of the NWC.
Currently, the 25-member NWC has seven vacancies, with the National Chairman, National Secretary, and National Vice Chairman, Northwest, having recently resigned. An NWC member revealed that one of his colleagues, an ally of the former National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu, was also likely to be removed from his position.
The NWC member shared concerns that the NEC might dissolve the committee, but emphasized that the caucus would be cautious to avoid repeating the situation with the Buni Caretaker Committee. The possibility of asking those who have committed wrongdoings to resign was discussed.
Meanwhile, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo reaffirmed his commitment to the APC and apologized for his absence at the caucus meeting. In a letter addressed to the Acting Chairman of the Party, Osinbajo explained that he had prior commitments abroad when he received the invitation for the meeting. He expressed his fidelity to the party and availability for future meetings and activities.
