The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in its efforts to curb drug trafficking and criminal activities. In a recent operation, NDLEA operatives apprehended a fake couple, Mr. Ilonzeh Kingsley Onyebuchi and Mrs. Ilonzeh Roseline Nonyelum, attempting to smuggle 184 wraps of cocaine weighing 3.322 kilograms.
The suspects were intercepted at the Lagos airport while attempting to board a flight to India. Further investigation revealed that the suspects obtained travel documents under false pretenses and had ingested the drugs. Additionally, 100 grams of cocaine were found concealed in the woman’s private part. The suspects confessed to their involvement in the illicit drug business, with promises of monetary rewards upon successful delivery.
The NDLEA also successfully intercepted various quantities of drugs concealed in different objects destined for Europe. These seizures included Dextromethorphan mixed with heroin, Methamphetamine, Dimethyl Sulfone, and Cannabis, all concealed in unsuspecting items. The agency’s Directorate of Operations and General Investigation played a crucial role in these operations, thwarting attempts to smuggle drugs out of the country.
In Kano state, NDLEA operatives arrested a woman and four men in connection with the seizure of 977.7 kilograms of cannabis sativa. Another significant seizure took place in Borno state, where 2,445 kilograms of cannabis sativa were recovered from a warehouse. The agency also intercepted a suspect carrying a substantial quantity of tramadol, rohypnol, exol-5 pills, and codeine-based syrup.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, commended the diligence, vigilance, and professionalism demonstrated by the agency’s officers and personnel across various commands. He emphasized the importance of remaining steadfast in the fight against drug trafficking and criminal activities.
The recent operations conducted by NDLEA underscore the agency’s commitment to maintaining law and order, safeguarding public health, and combating drug-related crimes in Nigeria.
