The Monitoring Unit of the Oyo State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the death of an 18-year-old girl, Seyi Olayode, whose decomposing remains were discovered in a bush in Olodo Community, Ibadan, Oyo State. The girl had gone missing after following her brother, Bidemi, to collect firewood from their farm.
On July 23, Bidemi reportedly asked Seyi to accompany him to their farm to collect firewood, without their parents’ knowledge. When Seyi did not return home, their parents became worried and initiated a search in nearby communities. Bidemi returned home without Seyi and claimed they had been abducted by four men who later released him.
However, during a ritual conducted by their father, Bidemi allegedly confessed to having strangled his sister on the orders of the abductors. The father took Bidemi to the Amotekun office where he was detained, and he further confessed to being a cult member and a hemp smoker.
The family began searching for Seyi’s body in the surrounding bushes, and her remains were eventually discovered in a decomposed state with signs of mutilation.
The police from the Sanyo Division, along with the Oluyole Security Surveillance Team and vigilante group members, were involved in the investigation. The case was transferred to the Monitoring Unit of the state police command for a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding Seyi’s death.
The case highlights the tragic and disturbing nature of the incident, as well as the efforts being made by law enforcement agencies to determine the truth behind Seyi Olayode’s death.
