The Katsina State Police Command has reported the arrest of a suspect, Jibrin Yusuf, aged 25, in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl at Kanon-Haki village, Faskari Local Government Area, Katsina State. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns over the safety of children in the region.
According to ASP Sadiq Abubakar, the spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, the tragic incident occurred on August 2, 2023. The father of the victim, Hassan Jibrin, had employed the suspect to transport fertiliser from one of his farms to another, located on the outskirts of the village. It was during this time that the suspect saw an opportunity to commit the heinous act.
Realizing that the young girl was left unattended as she watched over the fertiliser, the suspect forcefully abducted her and dragged her to a nearby farm. There, he reportedly raped her and then brutally slit her throat using a sharp knife. After committing the horrendous crime, the suspect moved the lifeless body to another farm and concealed it under leaves. To further add to the shock, he also stole three bags of fertiliser before fleeing the scene.
Detectives from the Katsina State Police Command swiftly launched an investigation into the incident. The suspect, Jibrin Yusuf, was apprehended as a result of their efforts. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to the rape and murder of the innocent child. Additionally, the stolen bags of fertiliser were recovered from him as evidence.
The tragic event has left the community in mourning and has ignited conversations about the safety of children in the area. Authorities are expected to ensure that a thorough investigation takes place, and the legal process is followed to ensure justice for the victim and her family.
