Wisdom Chukumerem, a 30-year-old Nigerian who was planning to travel to the United Kingdom, has been shot dead by armed robbers at a Point Of Sale (POS) operator in Owerri, the capital of Imo State. The incident occurred at the World Bank junction roundabout. Chukumerem, a father of two from Awo Ommamma in the Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, was shot three times in the chest.
The victim was reportedly withdrawing money from the POS operator when the armed robbers attacked him. Shedrack Anulika Chukwumerem, his immediate elder brother, described the incident. Shedrack stated that his brother was accused of calling the police to the scene and was shot despite his appeals that he wasn’t calling the police.
After being shot, Wisdom Chukumerem was taken to Umuguma Specialists General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His brother arrived at the hospital after receiving a distress call from the victim’s wife.
The police have been investigating the incident, and the family has expressed their desire to withdraw the case. However, the withdrawal of the case does not affect the ongoing police investigation. The police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, stated that the investigation will continue, and once the suspects are apprehended, they will be charged with murder.
The incident has left the family devastated, as Wisdom Chukumerem was the breadwinner of the family. He leaves behind a wife and two young daughters. The family’s decision to withdraw the case does not deter the police from seeking justice for the victim and his family.
