The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced a significant breakthrough in its efforts to combat cybercrime, as operatives from the Sokoto Zonal Command apprehended 23 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud, commonly referred to as “Yahoo Boys.”
In a statement released on its official Facebook page over the weekend, the EFCC disclosed the successful operation that led to the arrest of the alleged fraudsters. Among those apprehended were individuals identified as Joy Ofem, Azeez Naimot, Agabi O. Yusuf, Ibrahim Amodu, Aigbekan Daniel, Adedayo Michael, Iraran Mubarak, Olivine Habiblah, Wasiu Lukman Adekunle, Musa Abdulazeez, Abdullahi Ibrahim, Adegoh Nabiu Mohammed, Ibrahim Mubarak, Ahmed Ibrahim Abdullahi, Abdullahi Sanusi Adejoh, Umar Idris, Muhammad Nuhu, Feisal Ahmed, Aliyu Ismail, Elijah Adebayo, Zakariyau Ibrahim, Balogun Abdulkarim, and Buni Husaini.
The arrests were executed on Friday in the Bafarawa and Kalkalawa estates situated within Sokoto. The EFCC underscored that the operation was the result of diligent observation and intelligence gathering, highlighting the suspects’ alleged involvement in internet-related criminal activities.
Seized items from the apprehended individuals included two Toyota Corolla cars, three motorcycles, laptops, mobile phones, and a generator. These assets are expected to be used as evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The EFCC has affirmed its commitment to ensuring that justice is served. As investigations into the alleged internet fraud continue, the arrested individuals will be brought before a court of law to face charges related to their suspected criminal activities.
