The conference, attended by 16,190 lawyers, was held at the Velodrome, Chief MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
President Tinubu expressed concern over Nigeria’s economic approach, emphasizing that the nation cannot sustain a system that allocates 90% of its revenue to servicing external debts, especially amidst various development challenges. He called for the need to make difficult changes to achieve prosperity and elevate Nigeria to global recognition. Speaking on the theme of the conference, “Getting it Right: Charting the Course for Nigeria’s Nation-Building,” the President underscored the necessity of meaningful reforms, despite initial hardships, to ensure sustainable growth.
Drawing from his experience in implementing judicial reforms during his tenure as Lagos State Governor, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of fair renumeration for legal professionals and judicial officers to kickstart genuine justice reform. He acknowledged the need for a change in mindset and a collective effort to uplift the nation.
Reflecting on a keynote address by Tony Elumelu, Chairman of UBA Plc and Heirs Holdings, President Tinubu lamented Nigeria’s inability to eradicate poverty and address electricity supply challenges despite ample gas resources. He pledged to focus on generating and distributing the necessary electricity for economic growth.
