The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, known as So-Safe, has apprehended a 38-year-old man, Mathew Ifeanyi, for allegedly using a machete to fatally attack his biological father. The incident took place on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, in Diamond Estate, Olorunda Area, Eruobodo Ntabo, Ijoko, within the Ado Odo-Ota Local Government Area.
According to a statement from the office of the State Commander, (Dr) Soji Ganzallo, Superintendent Alabi Gafar, the Divisional Officer of the Corps at Alade/Atago/Ntabo Divisional Command, received information about the incident. The report indicated that Mathew Ifeanyi was assaulting his 100-year-old father, Anthony Nnadike, with a cutlass at their residence on Ibikunle Street.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Command patrol team was swiftly dispatched to the location to rescue the elderly victim and apprehend the alleged attacker. However, upon arrival, it was discovered that Anthony Nnadike had already been rushed to a nearby general hospital due to the injuries he had sustained from the attack. Tragically, the elderly man’s condition deteriorated, and he was pronounced dead by medical professionals.
Dr. Soji Ganzallo, the State Commander of So-Safe, explained that the patrol team managed to arrest Mathew Ifeanyi, who initially resisted arrest. During the subsequent investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime, revealing that he had killed his father over a financial dispute. The victim had reportedly failed to return the sum of N70,000 that Mathew had entrusted to him since July 22, 2022.
The suspect explained that he had resigned from his previous job to venture into a private business, but his father’s inability to repay the loan led him to commit the heinous act. Mathew Ifeanyi has now been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Sango Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The tragic incident underscores the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and the need for effective communication to prevent such drastic actions.
