Hon. Amobi Ogah, the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, has rejected the judgement of the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal (NAEPT) that declared the petitioner, Hon Nkeiruka Onyejeocha of the All Progressive Congress (APC), as the winner of the Feb. 25 National Assembly Election.
The tribunal’s ruling, delivered by Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe, declared Onyejeocha the winner with a total of 11,936 votes, while the second and third respondents had 9,728 votes. The tribunal also stated that Ogah was not qualified to contest the election as he and the Labour Party did not comply with the provisions of section 77 by failing to submit their membership register to INEC.
In response, Ogah issued a statement rejecting the ruling and vowing to appeal the decision, citing an “obvious miscarriage of justice, fairness, and objectivity.”
He further questioned the tribunal’s decision to disregard original copies of the result sheets produced from proper custody, noting that he had scored a total of 11,769 votes according to INEC’s results, compared to his opponent’s 8,752 votes.
Ogah called on his constituents to remain calm and law-abiding as he pursues the appeal process, emphasizing that he believes the tribunal’s decision does not reflect the true outcome of the election.
