The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has apprehended 14 individuals, including a woman named Bunmi Samuel and her boyfriend, on charges related to various crimes, such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and burglary. The suspects were arrested at different locations within the territory.
CP Haruna Garba, the FCT Commissioner of Police, paraded the suspects at the command headquarters in Abuja, where he revealed that the police had recovered an assortment of items, including weapons, vehicles, laptops, phones, and musical instruments from the suspects.
Among those arrested was a 36-year-old Bunmi Samuel and her boyfriend, who specialized in snatching GSM phones from innocent commuters. The boyfriend would remove the SIM cards and sell the phones, while Bunmi Samuel would withdraw money from accounts linked to the stolen SIM cards. The police confiscated 76 SIM cards, two Opay ATM cards, and a golden wristwatch from the suspects.
Furthermore, the police, in collaboration with vigilante groups, arrested five suspects for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a minor. Another arrest included a 26-year-old Kennedy Esezobor, a notorious criminal and cultist, found with a fabricated single-barrel gun and a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle.
The Anti-kidnapping unit of the Command also apprehended Mohammed Hamza, who confessed to being an informant, a drug and food supplier to criminal groups operating in the region.
The police conducted a swift operation, impounding six vehicles involved in criminal activities, where drivers used the vehicles to convey unsuspecting passengers and then disposed of their belongings midway through the journey to avoid being traced.
Additionally, a 38-year-old Mustapha Kyari was arrested for vandalizing manholes in the city. During a routine stop and search duty, the police intercepted a motorcycle with a passenger who attempted to flee but was arrested, leading to the recovery of a beretta pistol with live ammunition.
