In a tragic incident that occurred in the Okanla community, Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State, armed men stormed the palace of the Olokanla of Okanla, resulting in the death of an admission seeker named Ibrahim Qudus. Following this, they set the palace ablaze.
According to Jimoh Qadri, the uncle of the deceased, the attackers, numbering about 20, were led by an individual identified as Naim, who was the only one among them not wearing a mask. It remains unclear what motivated this violent attack.
Qadri explained that the assailants initially targeted his personal house but did not find him there. They subsequently proceeded to his father’s house, which was used as a palace by the late Oba Jimoh Adigun, the Olokanla of Okanla before his demise.
Qadri recounted the terrifying incident, stating, “I was not at home, but my wife called me that gunmen numbering about 20 had stormed my house in Okanla area very early on Sunday. She told me they all covered their faces, but one of them bearing Naim did not cover his face and my wife saw him. The attackers were after me and they searched around the house.”
Unable to locate him, the attackers vandalized his house and proceeded to the family house, where they encountered Ibrahim Qudus, who had recently returned home from Ibadan to seek admission to a university after taking the UTME. Tragically, they killed him and placed his body in a car parked on the premises before setting the vehicle and the palace ablaze.
Although the motive behind the attack remains unclear, it is believed to be related to a land dispute in the area. The family is now calling on law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrators of this horrific crime are apprehended.
The Osun Police Command has responded to the incident, with the Commissioner of Police, Kehinde Longe, visiting the scene. Additional security personnel have been deployed to the area to prevent further unrest and investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
