The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Wednesday, September 27, 2023, as a public holiday in commemoration of Eid-ul-Maulid, which signifies the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW). This annual religious observance is of great significance to Muslims worldwide.
In a statement released by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the government extended warm congratulations to Muslims for the opportunity to celebrate this year’s occasion.
The statement also emphasized the importance of embodying the spirit of love, patience, tolerance, and perseverance, which are deep spiritual virtues exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). These qualities are seen as central to the teachings and legacy of the Prophet.
Furthermore, the Minister of Interior encouraged the youth of the nation to embrace hard work and foster peaceful interactions with fellow citizens, irrespective of differences in faith, ideology, social class, or ethnicity.
