Jos, Plateau State – In a significant turn of events, a magistrate’s court within the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) has revoked the bail granted to Dr. Noah Kekere, the accused organ harvester.
Kekere, who faced accusations in September of harvesting kidneys from two former patients at his Murna Clinic and Maternity in Yanshanu community, Jos North Local Government Area, had initially been granted bail by a JMDB magistrate’s court presided over by Joseph Chollom.
Pmnews.ng first reported the accusations against Kekere, prompting a swift response from the Nigerian Medical Association, which disowned the suspect. Despite opposition from the victims’ family members, the police command, and the state Ministry of Justice, the initial bail was granted.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Joel Tahvan, expressed concerns over the magistrate’s decision, alleging complicity and asserting that the bail was granted without proper prosecution.
In response to mounting pressure, Chief Magistrate Chollom, presiding over the JMDB magistrate’s court, took action on Thursday. The court revoked Kekere’s bail after he was re-arrested and brought before the court by the police.
Consequently, Chief Magistrate Chollom ordered the immediate remand of the suspect. This decision follows a public outcry and underscores the gravity of the accusations against Dr. Noah Kekere, who now awaits further legal proceedings.
