**Umuahia, October 12, 2023 –** In a landmark decision, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has greenlit the promotion of 5718 senior police officers across various cadres. Notably, twelve Commissioners of Police have been elevated to the esteemed rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG), among other significant promotions.
The PSC Chairman, Dr. Arase, emphasized the need for a paradigm shift in policing culture. He urged the newly promoted officers to embrace a people-friendly approach, respecting the fundamental rights of citizens while maintaining an indomitable fighting spirit to address social disorders. Dr. Arase cautioned against involvement in civil matters and the fabrication of false allegations, emphasizing that such conduct undermines public trust.
Expressing gratitude for collaboration with the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Arase commended the comprehensive nature of the promotions, permeating all departments of the force. He urged the officers to reciprocate by adhering to established laws and rules, emphasizing that welfare improvements should align with responsible conduct.
The promotion list includes twelve Commissioners of Police who ascend to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police, with specific mention of notable officers such as Ogundele Joshua Ayodeji (CP Niger State) and Rhoda Adetutu Olofu (CP PAP Western Ports Lagos). Additionally, nineteen Deputy Commissioners and twenty-one Assistant Commissioners move up to the substantive ranks of Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners, respectively.
In the specialists cadre, promotions include two Assistant Commissioners of Police from Airwing and Forensic units and forty-seven Chief Superintendents of Police, encompassing medical and veterinary doctors, ascending to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police.
