The Ijaw Youths Network (IYN) has praised President Bola Tinubu for the renewal of the pipeline protection contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Limited for an additional three years. The IYN expressed gratitude to the President, commending his leadership and dedication to the collective good of Nigeria.
In a statement, the IYN Coordinator, Frank Ebikabo, and Secretary, Federal Ebiaridor, applauded President Tinubu for ignoring a campaign of calumny against Tantita Security Services Limited. The group highlighted the company’s efforts in confronting oil theft and considered the contract renewal a bold step to combat economic challenges.
The IYN also commended Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), for his firmness and patriotism in addressing the issue of oil theft and economic sabotage. The group praised Kyari’s decision to engage local security outfits, such as Tantita Security Services Limited, in combating these challenges.
The statement urged the NNPC GCEO to disregard disgruntled elements engaging in media blackmail, emphasizing that Kyari’s actions were aligned with offering solutions to economic crimes targeting the nation’s resources.
However, the IYN drew attention to threats issued by an amorphous group called the Supreme Egbesu Freedom Fighters of Niger Delta against Mele Kyari and the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Sen Heineken Lokpobri, over the contract renewal. The group called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the threat, expressing concerns about possible sabotage activities in the Niger Delta region.
The IYN concluded by commending President Tinubu and the NNPC GCEO for their commitment to tackling oil theft and economic challenges in Nigeria. The group urged security agencies to monitor and arrest individuals behind the threats to avert potential targeting of critical economic assets in the Niger Delta.
The statement read ; “The Ijaw Youth Network commends President Bola Tinubu and his team for the renewal of the pipeline protection contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Limited.
“We in the IYN who have monitored the dedication of the Tantita team to the fight against the unprecedented theft of the nation’s resources believe that this President is ready to confront headlong the deadly cabal of oil thieves in Nigeria.
“By this decision, coming especially in the face of the sustained blackmail and pressure put up by detractors working for wealthy and highly influential oil thieves, the President and his government have shown commendable dedication to the cause of Nigerians. We commend him.
“The IYN also has a word of encouragement for the Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPCL, MALLAM Mele Kyari who has been dispassionate in facing the challenge of oil theft in Nigeria.
“We urge him to ignore some disgruntled elements who have besieged the media space to blackmail him. Kyari has done the right thing by recommending the contract for renewal in view of the massive successes recorded by Tantita.
“We call on the Department of State Services to look into a threat by a group of people who under what they call the Supreme Egbesu Freedom Fighters of Niger Delta has threatened the NNPCL GCEO and the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Sen Heineken Lokpobri, over this issue of a renewed contract that went through the normal procedure for contract award and renewal.
