In a recent development, the Ogun State Police Command has successfully apprehended Esther Hamidu, a credit officer at a microfinance bank, for reportedly absconding with customers’ contributions totaling N1.97 million.
According to information, Hamidu allegedly disappeared with the daily contributions made by the bank’s customers over the period spanning March to December 2023. The matter came to light when a vigilant branch manager in Abeokuta, the state capital, discovered that the contributions had not been remitted.
After the branch manager reported the incident to the police, efforts were made to compel Hamidu to remit the missing funds. However, despite these efforts, the suspect managed to evade arrest and disappeared.
A source within the Ogun State Police Command, who preferred not to be named, disclosed that the elusive suspect has now been successfully apprehended. The arrest reportedly took place in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Friday.
