Big Brother Naija Season 5 winner, Laycon, has expressed concern over the behavior of opposition party supporters in Nigeria, questioning why some citizens actively hope and pray for the country’s failure simply because their preferred candidate did not emerge as president.
Laycon took to his X handle on Twitter to share his thoughts, saying, “Abeg wait to… so there are people (Nigerians, living in Nigeria) actively hoping and praying for things not to get better in this country. To what end?”
The reality TV star faced a massive backlash following his tweet, with many questioning if the prayers and wishes of opposition party supporters were responsible for the current economic hardships in the country.
In response to the backlash, Laycon clarified that he was misunderstood and emphasized his belief that Nigerian leaders are a reflection of the people. He stated, “I have always stood on the opinion that our leaders are a reflection of who we are as individuals. And as long as we as individuals don’t change, we’ll continue to experience what we give out.”
He further urged people to think before talking or typing, highlighting the importance of understanding before responding. Laycon emphasized the need for self-reflection, stating, “Your super power of criticizing should be aimed at yourself once in a while.” The exchange rate, economic challenges, and the impact of individual behavior on leadership were key points in his reflections.
