President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has officially confirmed the appointment of Adewale Adeniyi (MFR) as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, effective from October 19, 2023. This appointment aligns with the stipulations outlined in the Public Service Rules (PSR).
Adeniyi, a seasoned professional in the field, has been charged with the responsibility of bringing his extensive expertise to bear on his new role. The announcement was made through a statement issued by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information, on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Adeniyi’s career within the Nigeria Customs Service spans over three decades, reflecting his deep commitment and dedication to the organization. He possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations, earned from Obafemi Awolowo University in June 1987, as well as a Master of Arts in Communication Science obtained in November 2013 from Universitaire Svizzera D’Italiana (USI) in Lugano, Switzerland.
Notably, Adeniyi’s illustrious career includes serving as the Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College in Gwagwalada, Abuja. He also held the distinction of being the longest-serving National Public Relations Officer of Customs, fulfilling this role from June 2003 to May 2011.
One of Adeniyi’s most notable achievements was the receipt of the Comptroller-General of Customs Award for his role in the seizure of a substantial sum, $8,065,612 million in cash, at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in January 2020.
In recognition of his significant contributions to the field, Adeniyi currently serves as the Vice President of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (FNIPR). Furthermore, his dedication and commitment were acknowledged when former President Muhammadu Buhari conferred upon him the National Honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in October 2022.
Prior to his appointment as the acting Comptroller-General, Adeniyi held the position of Deputy Comptroller General of Customs. He assumed the role in an acting capacity on June 20.
