The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has taken a significant step toward empowering the youth in the Niger Delta region with the initiation of Project HOPE (Holistic Opportunity Projects of Engagement). This ambitious endeavor aims to equip the region’s young population with valuable skills and employment opportunities.
The first phase of Project HOPE commenced with the training of supervisors and collation officers, a critical component in ensuring the success of the program. The official flag-off of this training occurred at the Rivers State Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) Centre in Port Harcourt.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of NDDC, expressed the commission’s commitment to providing the youth with the tools necessary to secure gainful employment. “We are blessed to have a management who has the interest of the Niger Delta youths at heart. Today marks the commencement of a value-packed 3-day training,” he noted. “Our aim is to have a Niger Delta where the NDDC is truly making a difference. A Niger Delta where our youths are self-reliant and progressive to ensure that there is peace in the region for development to thrive.”
Notably, the facilitator of the program, Ambassador Blessing Fubara, highlighted the long-term vision of Project HOPE. “Project HOPE is a deliberate action by the NDDC to proffer sustainable solutions for youth engagements and regional development,” Fubara explained. “The project is divided into two phases. The first is to create a parameter for program selection and implementation, including the training of over 200 supervisors and collation officers. When these participants are deployed after the training, the first phase of the project would be done, ushering us into the second phase, which entails identifying potentials, engaging, and training 10,000 youths in local governments and rural areas of the Niger Delta. As you can see, NDDC is investing in the future of our region.”
Deputy Director of Media Relations, Dr. Tony Omah, emphasized the importance of participants adhering to the training’s rules and regulations, highlighting the role it plays in ensuring the program’s success.
The launch of Project HOPE represents a substantial step forward for the Niger Delta Development Commission, demonstrating its dedication to improving the prospects and well-being of the region’s youth. As the training of collation officers gets underway, the NDDC’s commitment to fostering youth engagement and regional development in the Niger Delta is evident.
