In a significant development related to the untimely demise of the late singer Mohbad, his father, Joseph Aloba, provided testimony during a coroner’s inquest into the singer’s death. The inquest, which commenced on October 13, is currently underway at the Ikorodu magistrates’ court in Lagos.
Joseph Aloba revealed to Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi that he and his son had lived together for 18 years, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, passed away on September 12 and was laid to rest the following day.
Joseph, in his testimony, stated that he was unaware of the exact residence where his late son was residing with Naira Marley, the prominent musician and founder of Marlian Records. Mohbad had left his father’s home at the age of consent to pursue his career in music and to support Naira Marley.
He also mentioned that he had seen his son just three days before the singer’s passing, revealing that he had only viewed a photograph of the deceased’s casket. According to Joseph, Mohbad had assured him that he could resolve any disagreements with Naira Marley.
The elder Aloba claimed that the deceased’s real estate holdings were under the control of his mother-in-law, and Mohbad frequently discussed issues related to his possessions held by his wife and her family. Joseph further alleged that Mohbad’s wife had occasionally laced his food with sleeping pills.
Joseph expressed his distrust of his daughter-in-law, asserting that Mohbad had informed him of her infidelity. He stated, “Mobhad made efforts to reconcile me with his mother.”
Additionally, he disclosed that his son had purchased a car for him after reconciling with his mother.
At the outset of the proceedings, the coroner extended his condolences to Joseph on the loss of his son, assuring that justice would be served in this case. It’s worth noting that on October 4, a Yaba magistrate’s court had remanded Naira Marley, Primeboy, and Sam Larry in police custody in connection with Mohbad’s death.
